Hope you’re only using one amp, not both for one sub. The cap has to be charged just before you supply power to it. It’s best to install it as close to the amp as possible. You may need to get addition power and ground wire the same size you have now. Otherwise, cut the ground and power wire leaving enough room to mount it. The overall length of the ground wire should as short as possible 18″ or less if possible, not critical. Remove the fuse at the battery. If you don’t have one, you need one that is rated the same as the total fuses that are on the amp. It must be no more than 18″ from the battery.
Connecting subwoofer to a stereo-amplifier without pre-out for sub? (total beginner)
The Tripath is a class D switching amplifier, not class AB. The advertising blurb says it is ‘like’ a class AB in terms of the quality of its output, not that it uses class AB topology. I stand corrected – thanks for that. That little marketing blurb has been expanded by others such as cheerleading site sixmoons.
Apr 26, · Best Answer: so if i interpreted your “english” correctly, you have two dual voice coil subs rated at 4 ohms per coil(8ohms in series/2 ohms in parallel) and a single voice coil sub @ 4 ohms. The way you would get those 3 subs to equal 2 ohms is by wiring the dual voice coil subs in Status: Resolved.
That might be a bit much for those of you who are starting out. With this being said, the question we want to answer is: One of the biggest things about this little piece state of the art that is noticeable immediately is its impressive low frequency output from a remarkably small enclosure. Additionally, the Hideaway comes with a remote bass-control to let you adjust bass levels on the fly according to your mood.
First of all, I think audiophiles with smaller cars might benefit from this enclosed sub more than most. I mean there are smaller barriers to entry using a compact powered subwoofer as opposed to typical subwoofers, which usually require tons of efforts building enclosures, wiring ,matching an amplifier to the subwoofer …etc.

Charger Sort of new to the forum, sorry if I miss anything but I’m not going into HEAVY detail, I figure if anyone is looking to install an amp, they should have prior knowledge on it before ripping apart a new car. I couldn’t find the speaker wires for the life of me anywhere on the internet, so I’m hoping this thread can help someone out who was in my predicament. Anyone can feel free to chime in for some better tips or anything I left out, including corrections.
Wire to the battery or any NON-painted screw on the trunk, you can find quite a few from the wires that come out of the harnesses once you lift the trunk lid.
Oct 16, · (If using stereo subs you will run one interconnect to each sub). Your main speakers will receive a full range signal. To reduce low frequency content to your main amp and speakers, use optional High Pass Filters plugged into the main amp inputs.”.
How to Wire an Amp to a Sub and Head Unit A sub woofer or two in a vehicle can make the world of difference in listening to music. It is very important to match the RMS of your subs to your amp. You want an amp more powerful than your sub, because you don’t want your sub to clip. Clipping is the number one reason of bass distortion. Steps 1 Gather your equipment Amp, Subs, Stereo, and wiring.
If you’re using an after market head unit, go to an electronics store’s stereo department and ask for a wiring harness from your car to the after market head unit. If you have a Chevy and a Sony stereo go to them and tell them you need a Chevy to Sony wiring harness, they will ask you the year of the vehicle and then go pick it off the shelf, these are usually by the install department behind the counter.
Figure out where you’re going to place the amp, put the beginning of your power red wire there and give it about a foot of wire extra, then begin to hide and run the power wire to under the hood. Run the power wire through the firewall. If you need to drill a hole in the fire wall, be careful not to hit anything on the other side and be sure the drilled hole will not cut through your power line. Electrical tape at the entry point will give the wire added protection.
Make sure this wire is safe from any moving objects. If you bought a kit it comes with an inline fuse, if you didn’t, you need to get an inline fuse. Just cut the power wire, insert the inline fuse and reattach.

Aug 13, · But today with all the modern amp technology, if you buy brand gear, you will get sound that is at least as good as the amp/speaker alternative and it’s much simpler and easier to hook up. Also since you now have two amps for two speakers, if one unit dies, you have a second one to keep you going, so built-in redundancy.
Originally posted by phobia: Wow, more great responses thanks alot guys. But what is a crossover? I assume it seperates frequencies or something? There are two basic kinds of crossovers: Active is cleaner, easier to configure, and costs much more due to the cost of the electronic crossover and the multiple amps necessary.
It will usually play much louder with a given amount of total amp power you use more, smaller amps. Passive takes a bit more expertise to tune well, but for the average car setup, it just isn’t that critical. The benefits are that you stretch a given amp to do many jobs, so you save money, space, and installation costs. Of course, exotic passive crossover components do exist which sound great, although this is probably not what you are looking to spend money on.
Anyway, to critically tune either setup you would need an RTA realtime analyzer anyway, and those don’t come cheap. Instead, you might buy a ready-made crossover or trust your local car audio shop and your ears, at least until you gain more experience with car audio.

Tube Stuff Suppliers Appendix B. Tube amps have always been the amplifier of choice for the working musician. Musical myth has ascribed almost magical tone to them. While the results may not be entirely magic, tubes do have a sound that is different from solid state amplifiers, and one that happens to make amplified music sound better to the human ears and brain. There are lots of technical and psuedo-technical explanations for why this should be true, but there is enough solid evidence that it is a real effect to trust it.
The real reason to use tube amps is simply that they sound better. For that advantage, we put up with the poor supply of parts, high prices, fragility and excess heat that they produce. Are Tube Amps louder than solid state amps of the same power? Some excellent scientific work on tube preamplifiers and their distortion products has turned up the mechanism for this. When tubes are driven outside their linear region, for the first 12db or so of overdrive the harmonics that they produce trick the human ear into thinking that the sounds are getting louder, when in fact the sound is getting progressively more distorted.
It is this acoustic trick that can make tube amps sound up to 12db louder than they actually are compared to a perfect, undistorted amplifier.

This confusion is also a likely cause of many blown power amplifiers. This article is intended to explain the meaning of speaker impedance and guide the reader in connecting multiple speakers to an amplifier. This article is NOT intended for engineers, technicians, or even serious students of electronics technology. What are ohms, anyway? The ohm is the unit of measure for impedance, which is the property of a speaker that restricts the flow of electrical current through it.
Oct 04, · Yup you can run them all on one amp you could even run all them all on one channel with the right amp and the correct wiring configuration. Do an internet search for explanations of series and parallel wiring methods, it’s not as complicated as it sounds.
Can anyone recommend any car audiophiles I can pester for w RMS amp suggestions? Just try to buy one from a reputable manufacturer, so when they say ” W RMS” it’s hopefully true. Note that most car audio amps are power-rated rated at 4 Ohms. The Bose speaker appears to be 8 Ohms, like most home audio speakers. The specs say “Compatible with recievers or amplifiers rated for Ohms. For a given voltage output, power is inversely related to load impedance. How long and what sort of volume permissible if so?
You don’t need to burn-in electronics. The performance of a solid state circuit should not change for years or decades unless something fails. If the performance changes after a few hours use, it’s a very-poor design.

It also has a 5V output, which a few of you might be interested in. This is a perfect supply for the kit. Connecting a 90 ohm power resistor in series with a. Because this unit is external, no AC enters your chassis. This means less potential for humm.
The best power amplifier for a car subwoofer is a single-channel amp. This means that the amp processes a single audio signal through one channel, which is wired to your subwoofer. You can wire multiple subwoofers to this single channel, but each sub receives the same mono frequency.

May 06, · You can never buy a amp that is too powerful! You just won’t turn the volume as high. Esentially the higher power amps will create cleaner power down low where as if you buy a lower powered amp you need to turn up the volume/power and this also creates dirty : Resolved.
The reason the speakers must be at least similar in function to the ones above is you will require powered active speakers since you aren’t going to connect your turntable to a receiver unless you decide you want to later. You can also use your saved money to get your hands on more vinyl, which is always a bonus. The reason I think the AT is the best choice for turntable is I’ve heard it, I’ve read numerous reviews comparing it to much higher end and much cheaper options, and it is the best balance of function, quality, and price.
So the bottom line is, to have the super simple set up like we’re talking about for this article, you need a turntable with a built-in pre-amp and RCA output like these have, and the speakers need to have RCA input and be powered speakers just like these. And honestly, that’s it. You don’t have to worry about buying a separate receiver as long as you buy powered speakers as outlined above–I think it’s the best turntable with speakers you can get that you don’t have to buy a receiver to use.
You also don’t have to buy a pre-amp because the turntables listed already have pre-amps built into them. So you literally just plug your speakers and turntable into the power outlet, connect the components with RCA cables, and you are in action.
